It warmed my heart a few weeks ago when commenters took Sarah Palin to task for being a lying, craven, word-salad-barfing, malfunctioning FemBot. You see, Palin endorsed Donald Trump, which was epic and stupid in and of itself, but then within the very same newscycle, we learned that Palin’s oldest son Track had been arrested at the Palin home in Wasilla after he assaulted his girlfriend and threatened her and himself with an automatic weapon. After Palin’s endorsement, she stayed silent for a day and then she gave a long-winded and word-salady speech about how Track maybe has PTSD from a combat mission in Iraq back in 2008 and how the whole thing is Pres. Obama’s fault. Frankly, I found the whole thing really distasteful. I was glad that other people saw through her nonsense as well.
Well, Palin sat down this morning for her first real interview since all of that went down. She spoke to Today’s Matt and Savannah and the first part of the interview is just about Trump, Iowa Caucus crap, Palin taking credit for Ted Cruz’s Senate win, blah blah blah. A particularly funny moment is when Palin talks about whether Trump is churchy enough for the GOP. But the whole thing goes off the rails (even more off the rails, I should say) around the 3-minute mark, which is when Savannah asks Palin about her son’s arrest and her subsequent blaming of Pres. Obama for Track’s PTSD.
Ha, so how does Palin deal with that question? “I never said that. I never said that.” Then Palin just melts down and it’s amazing. This is what she said, in case you can’t watch the video:
“You guys brought me to talk about Iowa politics and the caucus tonight, not to talk about my kids — and that was a promise. But as things go in the world of media, you guys don’t always keep your promises, evidently. I never blamed President Obama. What I have blamed President Obama in doing, though, is this level of disrespect for the United States military that is made manifest in gutting budgets and not trying to beef it up and let our military do the job that they are trained to do. And in specific issues that we’re talking about that are so hot today — specifically, let’s get there and let’s utterly destroy ISIS as we know our United States military can do, yet we have a commander-in-chief who seems to kind of want to kowtow and allow the enemy to be poking at us — and that’s unacceptable to most Americans, certainly to me.”
“I don’t regret any comment that I made, because I didn’t lay PTSD at the foot of the president. I did say, though, that there is — and suggested very adamantly that there is much more that our commander-in-chief can do to prove that he respects our troops and will let them do their job. But no, if you guys have a specific quote — it allows the media to be more credible if you guys will tell me exactly what you’re talking about, and then I can address the specifics.”
“THAT WAS A PROMISE!” She’s so juvenile. Matt Lauer promised, you guys. He promised he wouldn’t ask her about a public statement she made heavily implying her son has PTSD because of Pres. Obama. And seriously, it was heavily implied, go back and read her original statement here. I know Palin didn’t write that statement, but did she read it? Doubtful. Anyway, her whole meltdown is pretty terrifying/hilarious/sad.
